The R&A group of companies was formed in 2004 and took on The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews’ responsibilities for governing the Rules of Golf, staging The Open, golf’s original championship, and developing the sport.
About the role
We have created an exciting new role in the organisation – Director of Property – and are looking for a highly experienced and credible individual to provide strategic and transformational leadership across the property and facilities functions. This role is created at a time of exciting change, as the R&A looks forward to moving into a new state-of-the-art, technology enabled office location in 2026. This investment signals our ongoing commitment to the town of St Andrews and will place a strong focus on wellbeing and sustainability.
The Director of Property will have accountability for leading the property and facilities team and will focus on delivering high levels of performance and service across the multiple buildings that we own, lease and operate in and around St Andrews. They will be a proven leader who can influence at all levels.
Specifically, the Director of Property will:
- Provide inspiring and influential leadership to the property and facilities team.
- Ensure that the property strategy delivers optimal use of and returns from current and future property assets
- Positively influence our environmental and financial sustainability objectives, including decarbonisation and energy efficiency efforts
- Liaise closely with the R&A, Club Boards and Committees
- Manage and review external suppliers to encourage high performing partnerships
- Lead on all aspects of the day-to-day facilities management across all R&A properties, to deliver a best-in-class experience for Club members, employees and visitors.
- Design, drive and instil a proactive and continuous improvement culture
The R&A’s people are its greatest strength, and over and above the technical remit, this is a role for an inspiring leader who can nurture talent, develop the team and deliver results. Our commitment to our people is reflected in our values of courage, integrity and inclusivity.
They will have a strong track record of working in a senior property or estates role within a complex organisation and will ideally have worked in a multi-faceted stakeholder environment. A background in managing change and service transformation would be highly desirable as would an additional qualification in Lean or Six Sigma.
