Community nurses deliver care to people at home and in their communities every day, yet their work too often goes unseen. We’re looking for a Communications and Media Officer to help change that. You’ll be the day-to-day engine of our press office and content production. You’ll handle proactive and reactive media work, write and edit across our channels, and turn our programmes, research and policy work into stories that reach community nurses, employers, policymakers, journalists and the public.
In this role you will:
- Respond to media enquiries and draft press releases, statements, comment pieces and lines to take
- Build relationships with health, nursing, trade, national and regional journalists, and pitch stories proactively
- Brief and prepare spokespeople, including our Chief Executive and Queen’s Nurses
- Interview nurses and capture their stories with sensitivity and care
- Translate research and policy into clear, compelling copy
- Supply content for our website, social media and newsletters, and support events such as our Annual Conference and awards
We’re looking for someone with:
- Some experience in a press office, PR, communications or journalism role, or equivalent
- Excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to work accurately at speed
- Confidence dealing with journalists and sound judgement on sensitive and reputational issues
- A working knowledge of the UK media landscape
- An interest in health, nursing, social care or the NHS
This is a great opportunity for a skilled communicator to join a small, supportive team and give community nursing the profile it deserves.
