An excellent opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistants to join West Newton ward at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn. West Newton ward is a 28 bedded acute frailty ward. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be a valued member of our team, focusing on keeping patients at the centre of all we do and providing high quality care.

We are looking for individuals who uphold our trust values to contribute to making our patients feel comfortable and well cared for during their stay. You are required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the ever changing needs of the unit environment. Our aim is to provide our patients with the highest quality of personal care and support while they are in hospital.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for working under delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Successful candidates will attend the GROW Programme, which is the QEHKL enhanced induction programme. This includes mandatory training, where you will be taught the fundamental skills needed to perform your role and attend the Caring with Kindness programme. The course is very practical, allowing you plenty of time to practice new skills before starting your new role.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Providing effective care in a safe and therapeutic environment.

The successful applicants must have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility.
  • Be able to work as part of a team as well as make decisions autonomously.
  • Be willing to undertake further training and mandatory updates as deemed necessary.
  • Previous experience of working within a care environment or the NHS is desirable but not essential as you will be supported whilst learning the role.

You will attend a comprehensive induction programme and will be supported to complete the care certificate. The post will involve working days and nights, as well as bank holidays including Christmas and New Year on a rota basis.

Qualifications/training and professional development required include:

  • Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent.
  • National Care certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting.
  • To complete fundamental GROW Programme, completion of Clinical Skills Passport Part A and caring with kindness.
  • To undertake Level 2 vocational qualifications (NFCE or apprenticeship) in clinical health care.

Experience required includes:

  • Experience of working with people/team.
  • Previous health/social care support worker experience.

Skills, abilities, and knowledge required include:

  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly and effectively in the English language.
  • Understanding of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the Healthcare assistant role.
  • Clear and effective reading and writing in the English language.
  • Can follow instructions and learn procedures.
  • Basic computer/IT skills.
  • Caring and compassionate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to prioritise own workload and manage time effectively.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
