The Publishers Association, the trade body for UK publishing, is looking to recruit a Policy and Public Affairs Officer. The role will contribute to the dynamic and impactful work of the Policy, Public Affairs and Research team and wider association. The successful candidate will support policy development and deliver political engagement to advance the interests of the UK publishing industry.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver effective public affairs engagement, including supporting a programme of work for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Publishing, Parliamentary Book Club and other parliamentary activity.
- Monitor political and policy developments across Westminster and Whitehall, providing timely analysis and updates to colleagues and members.
- Contribute to policy development by undertaking research and drafting material, including for Select Committee responses and letters to ministers.
- Draft content for speeches, briefings and articles for the senior team on policy issues.
- Build relationships with publisher members and network with counterparts at other creative industry trade associations and partner organisations.
- Assist with the effective running of the Policy & Public Affairs team and wider Publishers Association, including providing the secretariat to a number of sector councils, organising and contributing to member meetings, and other administrative matters.
- Work with colleagues on planning, project managing and evaluating our work in a way that enables reporting to members.
Personal specification:
Essential:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a comparable policy, political, or public affairs role.
- A strong knowledge of UK politics and the parliamentary processes.
- An ability to write in a highly compelling, concise and engaging manner.
- An ability to research, organise and present information and data in an accessible, succinct and logical way.
- Energy, enthusiasm and commitment to working to the highest standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism when dealing with members, colleagues and others.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM software.
Desirable:
- Recent experience of working in the UK Parliament.
- Empathy for the UK publishing sector and a belief in the value of the creative industries.
