About the role
In this role, you will support the delivery of high-quality personal tax compliance services, manage a portfolio of clients and ensure all work is completed accurately and within statutory deadlines. You will build strong client relationships, liaise with HMRC, assist with tax enquiries and advisory projects, and keep up to date with changes in tax legislation. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure personal tax compliance and procedures are adhered to, meeting the appropriate statutory deadlines, prioritising work appropriately.
- Provide high-quality personal tax compliance on a portfolio of clients.
- Build relationships with clients by interacting with them regularly.
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Be involved in written and verbal communications with HMRC to ensure that the clients’ tax affairs are kept up to date.
- Deal with enquiries into clients’ tax affairs where appropriate.
- Keep up to date technically and advise clients and team members about changes to legislation and practice where applicable.
- Use your technical knowledge to spot opportunities to provide other services such as legal and financial advisory and problem solve where necessary.
- Demonstrate that you have good organisational skills so that clients are effectively managed, and tasks followed up.
- Provide support to senior management on other ad hoc advisory projects.
What success looks like
- Produces accurate tax computations, returns and supporting calculations, applying relevant tax legislation while maintaining high levels of compliance and attention to detail.
- Identifies potential tax risks, issues and opportunities, exercising good judgement and escalating matters appropriately.
- Builds strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, communicating technical tax matters clearly and responding to queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Effectively manages competing priorities, consistently meets deadlines, takes ownership of assigned work and supports wider team objectives.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional development through progression towards ATT/CTA qualifications, expanding technical knowledge and keeping up to date with legislative changes.
- Contributes to continuous improvement by identifying efficiencies, making effective use of technology and tax software, and suggesting enhancements to processes, accuracy and client experience.
Our ideal person
- Working towards a professional qualification -ATT/ CTA or willingness to study.
- Basic understanding of UK taxation principles, including:
- Income Tax
- Capital Gains Tax
- Familiarity with HMRC processes and tax compliance requirements.
- Experience using tax software and Microsoft Excel.
- 1–3 years' experience in a tax environment.
- Exposure to preparing tax returns, computations, and supporting tax compliance activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and apply it to practical scenarios.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and organisational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines, priorities and workloads.
