We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated VFX Supervisor to join our HETV & Feature VFX team to contribute to our continued growth and success. The VFX Supervisor will oversee a team of artists and operators both in house, freelance and with third party vendors. The VFX Supervisor will assign and critique their team’s work, but above all provide creative and operational leadership. The ideal candidate will be highly visually creative with an excellent knowledge of visual effects techniques and the software and hardware they operate. The VFX Supervisor is expected to supervise VFX shoots and therefore must have a strong understanding of onset VFX supervision protocol, techniques and best practices. The VFX Supervisor must also have the confidence and ability to manage clients, coordinating and guiding them through a group creative process, often with a great deal of diplomacy to achieve a result which is satisfactory to all.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary creative and technical point of contact for VFX managing large and complex feature and HETV projects under tight deadlines
  • Working with Producers to accurately bid projects from scripts and storyboards
  • Engaging in calls and meetings with directors and creatives from pitch to delivery
  • Lead the planning and execution of all VFX work, from pre-production through post and delivery
  • Oversee VFX budgets, schedules and resource planning in collaboration with the production team
  • Building on their strong client base by sourcing and developing relationships with creative talent and clients
  • Approve and give constructive critique on shots, providing clear creative direction to artists and vendors
  • Working closely with the leadership and technology teams to research, develop and implement new technology and creative ideas
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the Compositing team and other VFX departments and locations
  • Other responsibilities, as needed and required

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Train new staff and mentor junior artists
  • Work closely with the operations and production teams to oversee the daily workflow of the department

Qualifications

  • Advanced Experience in Compositing with Nuke and/or Flame for complex VFX projects
  • An advanced understanding of the full VFX pipeline; from the initial detailed bidding process, concepting and R&D, through to full multi format deliveries
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with strong problem-solving skills
  • Innate understanding of client needs
  • Strong understanding of on-set VFX supervision protocol and best practices
  • Provide effective leadership with enthusiasm across a variety of projects
  • Communication skills and the ability to set clear expectations for clients
  • A strong creative eye with artistic and technical skills
  • Strong aesthetic with good understanding of color, light and photography
  • A team player with a great attitude who is dependable and flexible
  • Takes feedback and direction well
  • Exercises close attention to detail
  • Advanced technical knowledge of Flame and/or Nuke for conform and deliverables
  • Advanced knowledge of CG rendering and compositing multi-channel EXRs
  • Advanced understanding of 2D and 3D tracking
  • Highly proficient in using IBK, Primatte, Keylight or other keyers
  • Excellent knowledge of Nuke and/or Flame’s 3D system
  • Advanced understanding of colorspace pipelines
  • Strong knowledge of cameras, film resolutions, aspect ratios and lenses
  • Experience leading client facing jobs with VFX Supervision

Travel Requirements

  • May be required to travel for VFX Supervision on-set
