The Kitchen Assistant Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly catering team on a part-time basis. You will play an important role in the daily preparation and service of breakfast, lunch and dinner for our residents, working alongside our experienced Head Chef in a well-equipped, 5-star-rated kitchen.
Previous kitchen or catering experience is preferred but not essential β we will provide full induction training and support you in obtaining a Food Hygiene certificate. What matters most is enthusiasm for food, a cheerful manner, and a commitment to high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning
- Serve meals to residents in dining areas, ensuring presentation and portion sizes meet standards
- Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of all kitchen equipment, surfaces and utensils
- Follow all food safety regulations and infection control procedures at all times
- Assist with stock rotation, storage and checking of delivery goods
- Cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences of residents
- Support with washing up and clearing down after meal services
What We Are Looking For
- Genuine enthusiasm for food and hospitality
- Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred (not essential)
- Basic Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to obtain one (we support this)
- Ability to work as part of a team in a busy kitchen environment
- Flexible, reliable and willing to work some early morning and weekend shifts
- Friendly, professional manner with a positive attitude
- Enhanced DBS check required (cost covered by The Priory)

Do I need a Food Hygiene certificate to apply?
It is helpful but not essential. If you do not have one, The Priory will support you in obtaining your Basic Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate as part of your induction training.
What hours would I work as a Kitchen Assistant?
Hours are part-time and primarily cover breakfast, lunch and dinner preparation and service. Specific shift patterns will be discussed at interview to suit your availability.
