Main duties of the job:
As a Registered Nurse at our Hospice, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients nearing the end of life. Working closely with patients, families and carers, you’ll promote dignity, comfort and choice, while supporting the emotional and physical well-being of those we care for. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence, continuous learning, and compassionate care. You’ll also contribute to mentoring and developing junior staff and students, ensuring a positive and professional environment for all.
About us:
At The Prince of Wales Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care in a supportive and respectful environment. Our 14‑bed inpatient unit, located just minutes from Junction 32 of the M62 in Pontefract, also offers outpatient and community services, including a successful Lymphoedema clinic.
Job responsibilities:
This is a fixed-term position to provide maternity cover for approximately 12 months from May 2026 to May 2027.

- NMC Registration.
- Strong knowledge of infection control and evidence-based practice.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.

- EXPERIENCE: Caring for patients at end of life.
- KNOWLEDGE: Research/evidence based practice, Infection control, End of life care/long term conditions, Evidence of professional updating.
- QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING: Registered Nurse (Level 1), Supporting Learning in Practice or equivalent (ENB 998, Mentorship in Practice).
- SKILLS/ABILITIES: Time management/organisational skills, Good written and verbal communication skills, Positive interpersonal skills, Ability to deal with emotive situations, IT skills (use of electronic patient record systems/email), Performance review skills.
