Registered Nurse (Maternity Cover - Fixed Term) in Pontefract

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care and to promote a positive and professional atmosphere. To demonstrate and develop high quality nursing care through evidence based practice and to supervise, teach and develop staff in the nursing team. Main duties of the job:

As a Registered Nurse at our Hospice, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients nearing the end of life. Working closely with patients, families and carers, you’ll promote dignity, comfort and choice, while supporting the emotional and physical well-being of those we care for. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence, continuous learning, and compassionate care. You’ll also contribute to mentoring and developing junior staff and students, ensuring a positive and professional environment for all.

About us:

At The Prince of Wales Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care in a supportive and respectful environment. Our 14‑bed inpatient unit, located just minutes from Junction 32 of the M62 in Pontefract, also offers outpatient and community services, including a successful Lymphoedema clinic.

Job responsibilities:

This is a fixed-term position to provide maternity cover for approximately 12 months from May 2026 to May 2027.

Person Specification:

• EXPERIENCE: Caring for patients at end of life.
• KNOWLEDGE: Research/evidence based practice, Infection control, End of life care/long term conditions, Evidence of professional updating.
• QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING: Registered Nurse (Level 1), Supporting Learning in Practice or equivalent (ENB 998, Mentorship in Practice).
• SKILLS/ABILITIES: Time management/organisational skills, Good written and verbal communication skills, Positive interpersonal skills, Ability to deal with emotive situations, IT skills (use of electronic patient record systems/email), Performance review skills.
• PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Committed to the Hospice values and ethos, Self awareness, Motivated, Work as part of a team.
