Main duties of the job

About the Role

• Key responsibilities will include:
• Delivering treatment
• Conducting unsupervised clinics for stable patients and supporting review clinics.
• Educating patients and carers on self-care and lifestyle practices.
• Assessing and monitoring treatment outcomes.
• Liaising with internal and external services to ensure holistic patient support.
• Participating in wellbeing groups and initiatives.

At The Prince of Wales Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care in many settings including our In-patient unit, community settings, and out-patient clinics across the district. Our main Hospice is located just minutes from Junction 32 of the M62 in Pontefract, where we provide some of our outpatient clinics for our successful Lymphoedema clinic.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

We are expanding our Lymphoedema service so looking for the perfect person to work as a Lymphoedema Nursing Associate / Assistant Practitioner. This unique role, supports people living with lymphoedema by delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the people of Wakefield.

Person Specification

Experience

• Demonstrable experience as nurse or allied health professional
• Ability to work autonomously and make decisions
• Working with patients with complex needs including lymphoedema, chronic oedema, cancer patients
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
• Transferrable skills to support Wellbeing team when deemed appropriate

Skills & Knowledge

• Possess a demonstrable level of theoretical and clinical knowledge of Lymphoedema management
• Be able to implement specific and appropriate management plans including the setting of timescales
• Be competent in the practise of Simple Lymphatic Drainage
• Understand the need to establish and maintain a safe practice environment
• Excellent communication skills verbal & non-verbal, including tact & persuasion
• Be competent in the application of compression garments and lymphoedema bandaging

Qualifications / Training

• Nursing Associate qualification or equivalent in health care
• Diploma level course in lymphoedema management or willing to work towards
