Would you like to help people rebuild their confidence and live the life they choose? Parkville Care Centre is a 92-bed care home supporting adults with long-term mental health needs, and our care is built on the recovery model. We're looking for caring, positive Mental Health Care Assistants who believe in people's potential. You'll walk alongside the people we support as they work towards their own goals. We'd love to hear from you.
About the role
As a Mental Health Care Assistant, you will support people with their day-to-day lives in a way that builds hope, independence and connection. Rather than doing things for people, you will work with them, encouraging their strengths, choices and personal goals. You will work 12 hour shifts. Day/Night available.
Key responsibilities
- Support people with daily living skills such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, laundry and personal care, encouraging them to do as much as they can themselves
- Help people work towards personal recovery goals, using tools such as the Recovery Star
- Support people to take part in community life, including college, volunteering, work, leisure, faith and social activities
- Build trusting, respectful relationships, listening without judgement
- Encourage healthy routines, physical health and wellbeing
- Support people with their medication, as trained, and encourage them to manage it independently
- Notice early warning signs or changes in mood and report them to the nurse in charge
- Respond calmly to distress, using de-escalation and least-restrictive approaches
- Keep accurate, respectful records
- Follow safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act and health and safety procedures
About you
- A genuine belief that people can recover and live meaningful lives
- Patience, empathy and a warm, non-judgemental approach
- Good communication and listening skills
- Reliability and willingness to work as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and complete the Care Certificate and mental health training
- Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Care or Health and Social Care
- Training in de-escalation or positive behaviour support
If you share our values, we'll give you the training and support you need.
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate of Β£14.00
- Full paid induction, Care Certificate and mental health awareness training
- Training in recovery-focused practice and de-escalation
- Funded qualifications and clear progression to Senior Support Worker and beyond, including nurse training
- Regular supervision and a supportive team
- Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support
- Free DBS check
In addition to this vacancy, we are also looking for dedicated colleagues to join our Bank team. Bank staff work flexible shifts across our care homes, helping provide high-quality care when extra support is needed. This is ideal for anyone seeking flexible hours and the opportunity to work across different locations.
Parkville Care Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the people we support. The successful candidate will need an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
