The Premier League Legal Team are looking for a Safeguarding Manager who will support the organisation’s expanding activities and ensure that safeguarding arrangements remain effective, robust and responsive. The Safeguarding team sits within the Legal department and play a lead role in delivering the highest standards of care and protection for children and adults at risk, while empowering stakeholders to help create safe, inclusive and protective environments across all areas of our work.
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the Safeguarding Manager will support the delivery of safeguarding processes, including safe event delivery, preventing online harm, contributing to assurance activity, and responding to concerns, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard and in line with the Premier League’s values.
The role
- Providing safeguarding advice and support to stakeholders and promoting safer working practices.
- Proactively identifying and managing safeguarding risks to individuals and the organisation.
- Supporting safe event delivery and implementing controls to prevent harms arising from online content creation and digital engagement.
- Supporting partner safeguarding due diligence processes and ongoing risk management plans.
- Leading the response to allocated safeguarding concerns, complaints, and regulatory matters.
- Supporting quality assurance measures to ensure safeguarding procedures and practices remain effective, and to embed a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Providing direction and support to the Safeguarding Champion network, ensuring Champions are empowered to fulfil their responsibilities effectively.
- Delivering assigned work streams in line with strategic safeguarding objectives, and undertaking other duties as reasonably required.
Role Requirement
- A professional background in safeguarding, with substantial experience in preventative work, together with competence in the management of safeguarding concerns.
- Strong online harms knowledge with demonstrable experience in prevention work and advising on safeguarding risks in online environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build credibility, trust and effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Ability to identify and assess risk and make defensible, evidence‑based decisions using sound professional judgement.
- An understanding of trauma and its impact, informing a sensitive, proportionate approach to safeguarding practice.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, supporting the flexible management of competing priorities and the timely delivery of high‑quality outputs in a fast‑paced, risk‑responsive environment.
- Strong written communication and report writing skills, together with a high level of IT literacy and experience operating digital systems for the secure and accurate management of safeguarding information.
