In November 2024, the Premier League announced the establishment of a new in-house media operations business, Premier League Studios, launching at the start of the 2026/27 season. This division will handle all international media content production and distribution, providing a top-tier content service to partners and millions of fans worldwide. We are seeking a Financial Controller to establish, develop, and lead our finance function, ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and commercial success.

The role involves designing and implementing financial strategies, systems, and processes for this new business, providing leadership and guidance to foster sustainable growth and operational excellence. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in launching and growing Premier League Studios. The League is accessible in over 900 million homes across 189 countries. Currently, international media output and distribution are managed by IMG (Premier League Productions). The new production business will be fully operational by the 2026/27 season, with a state-of-the-art facility at London Olympia, enabling faster decision-making and industry adaptation. The role

  • Financial Strategy & Leadership
    • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business goals.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
    • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
    • Advise leadership on financial matters and support financial planning.
    • Coordinate with the Premier League finance team and report periodically.
  • Financial Operations & Systems
    • Design and manage finance systems, controls, and reporting structures.
    • Ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
    • Oversee reporting, tax, audit, and risk management.
    • Improve financial reporting and management information where needed.
  • Cost Management & Investment Planning
    • Implement cost control measures for sustainability.
    • Assess investment opportunities and resource allocation.
    • Manage finances related to productions, licensing, and distribution.
  • Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
    • Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
    • Manage a team of seven, ensuring proper training and awareness.
    • Collaborate with internal and external partners for financial alignment.
    • Present performance and strategic insights to stakeholders.

Requirements for the role

  • Chartered accountant qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience managing a finance team.
  • Experience with large business P&L management and budgeting.
  • Experience with Capex decisions and budgets.
  • Proficiency with MS Dynamics GP and MS Dynamics 365 Finance.
  • Proven track record in setting up finance functions in high-growth or startup environments.
  • Strong financial analysis, planning, and strategic skills.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting, tax, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance colleagues.
