The Premier League’s Football department is recruiting for the new role of Elite Performance Manager – Psychology. The role is within the Premier League Elite Performance team, who support the Football Department’s objectives by driving and supporting world‑leading player health, performance support and pathway management in the Professional Game.

This position will further develop and enable the discipline of Sport Psychology within the Premier League, informing club practice and elevating the game through policy development and cross‑departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate new and existing psychology‑related projects and workstreams.
  • Act as a discipline‑specific expert in psychology within the Elite Performance team and across the shared space at the Premier League.
  • Drive the shared space area of mental health and wellbeing, forging strong collaborations and partnerships with colleagues across other teams, including Player Care and Safeguarding.
  • Support and contribute to new and existing Elite Performance projects and workstreams.
  • Engage proactively with the Psychology, Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisory group, working with the chair to maximise the added value of the group.
  • Collaborate with Football Partners, Club Academies and other organisations on psychology‑related topics and projects.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of psychology projects across the Elite Performance department and the shared space.
  • Collaborate with each team in the Football Department to help achieve our work and aims; also establish working relationships with departments around the organisation to help facilitate cross‑departmental working.
  • Lead the evaluation and evolution of psychology‑related rules and guidance for clubs and practitioners, working closely with the Premier League’s Regulatory team on psychology matters relating to the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules.
  • In collaboration with Academy Support Managers, support clubs in the area of psychology.
  • Develop and deliver workforce development opportunities for first team and academy staff, alongside other members of the Football Department.
  • Contribute to the development and utilisation of the Football Intelligence Platform.
  • Play a key role in ensuring that an evidence‑informed approach is central to all Elite Performance team activity.
  • Support the development and sharing of insights to inform guidelines and recommendations.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities as reasonably required by the Premier League.
Requirements
  • Registration as an Applied Sport & Exercise Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Excellent understanding of the discipline of sport psychology.
  • Significant experience as an applied practitioner in elite sport settings, ideally football.
  • Strong understanding of talent development and youth development pathways.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Analytical skills for compiling and interpreting reports and proficiency in data collection, analysis and presentation.
  • Understanding of talent identification principles (desirable but not required).
