The Premier League’s IT department is looking for an experienced AI Engineer to join the Engineering team, led by the Head of Systems, to design, build, and support AI‑powered copilots and agents across the Premier League and its member clubs. This role is part of a fixed‑term full‑time contract focused on delivering intelligent solutions that enhance productivity, automate workflows, and enable smarter decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable AI agents and copilots using modern LLM frameworks; define patterns for orchestration, tool usage, memory, and human‑in‑the‑loop workflows.
  • Leverage large language models (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, etc.) and practice prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, and retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) to optimise model performance for real‑world use cases.
  • Build agents that integrate with internal systems (APIs, databases, SaaS tools such as Microsoft 365 and Notion) to automate workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Design intuitive copilot experiences that augment users rather than replace them, with a focus on usability, trust, and explainability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and document best practices on AI engineering.
  • Define metrics and evaluation frameworks for agent performance, reliability, and safety, and iteratively refine solutions based on feedback and usage data.
  • Deploy AI systems into production, managing monitoring, observability, cost control, and lifecycle of models and agents.
  • Collaborate within an Agile project team to deliver value iteratively with stakeholders.
  • Ensure AI solutions comply with security, privacy, and data governance standards, and mitigate risks such as hallucination, data leakage, and misuse.
  • Coordinate with Business Analysts, QA, Security, and Infrastructure teams as required.

Role Requirements

  • Experience building AI agents, copilots, or automation workflows using LLMs in production or enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of prompt engineering, RAG architectures, and tool‑augmented agents.
  • Experience integrating AI solutions with APIs, databases, and enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript.
  • Education in an appropriate field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience leading projects or owning AI‑driven initiatives end‑to‑end.
  • Ability to manage matters autonomously and think strategically about AI adoption within an organisation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and research skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain AI concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Professional work ethic and resilience under pressure and tight timeframes.
