We are seeking a dedicated Weekend Boarding Matron to join our team at The Prebendal School, Chichester.

The Prebendal School is the oldest school in Sussex, with origins dating back to the establishment of Chichester Cathedral in the eleventh century. Today, the school is a co-educational day and boarding preparatory school for children aged 3–13.

About the Role:

  • Contract: Friday evening to Monday morning
  • Salary: Dependent on experience, with food and accommodation provided
  • Start date: January 2026

The Boarding Matron reports to the Head of Boarding and plays a vital role in promoting the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils. As a night worker, you will remain awake throughout your duty to ensure excellent supervision, complete essential housekeeping tasks and uphold the highest standards of pastoral care.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing emotional and practical support to boarders during the school day
  • Caring for unwell students and liaising with the school nurse or parents
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming boarding environment
  • Overseeing the cleanliness and tidiness of student rooms and communal areas
  • Reporting maintenance issues promptly and escalating where necessary
  • Managing boarders’ laundry twice weekly and ensuring smooth collection and return
  • Assisting with the daily operations of the boarding house
  • Supporting boarding staff with administrative tasks and logistics
  • Upholding safeguarding and health
