Sheffield Full-Time No working from home possible

Overview

A well-established, award-winning RIBA Chartered practice in Sheffield is looking to appoint a Project Architect to join a close-knit team of around 20 people. This is a replacement hire following an internal promotion, and they are seeking someone who can step in confidently and run projects with minimal supervision.

The practice has evolved from a predominantly domestic studio into one with a largely commercial portfolio. The current split is approximately 70% commercial and 30% domestic, reflected in a strong pipeline that includes large-scale residential developments, social housing, care homes, industrial and logistics projects, as well as complex heritage and retrofit work. The studio is collaborative and delivery focused, with a strong regional reputation, particularly for handling challenging planning environments.

The Role

You will work across a broad range of live projects, from individual houses through to large-scale commercial developments. The role is firmly focused on delivery, with responsibility for taking projects from detailed design through to construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading projects across RIBA Stages 4 to 6 with full ownership of technical delivery
  • Coordinating internal teams and external consultants
  • Producing and reviewing detailed technical drawings and specifications in Revit
  • Liaising with planning authorities, including work within constrained planning contexts
  • Managing client relationships and attending site meetings
  • Contributing to a culture of design quality and technical rigour

Project Mix

Current work in progress includes:

  • Large-scale commercial residential schemes, including social housing and developer-led projects
  • Re-cladding projects with post-Grenfell compliance requirements
  • Care homes and children's residential facilities
  • Industrial and logistics developments
  • Domestic projects in sensitive planning locations, including the Peak District National Park

What They Are Looking For

Essential

  • Strong Revit proficiency, this is a firm requirement
  • Experience in commercial residential projects
  • Proven delivery experience across RIBA Stages 3 to 6
  • Strong technical ability with solid knowledge of UK building regulations
  • Confidence coordinating consultants and managing project teams
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Experience with complex or constrained sites
  • Exposure to care, social housing or heritage sectors
  • Experience working within or near national park planning environments

Benefits

  • Private health insurance via Westfield Health
  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • Flexible working with 1 to 2 days remote post-probation, increasing with seniority
  • A stable and growing practice with a clear internal progression path and a strong record of promoting from within
  • A collaborative, grounded and commercially minded team culture

Why This Role Is Worth a Look

This practice has earned its reputation. It is award-winning, well regarded by clients, and has a strong multi-sector pipeline. Staff retention is high, and the leadership team is clearly focused on long-term growth rather than short-term turnover. If you are a delivery-focused architect with commercial experience and want a role where you can genuinely run projects rather than support from the sidelines, this is well worth exploring. The salary ceiling is fixed, but the quality of work, team environment and responsibility on offer make it a compelling opportunity.
