While we are a Consultant Led Service, we believe in empowering our Resident Doctors, so your role could expand as much as you wish. This could be to help steer the services you deliver, speaking up or patient satisfaction focus groups, clinical governance or MDT meetings. About The Role

As a Resident Doctor in PICU, you’ll play a key role in delivering intensive care to critically ill children, from very small to 18 years and the conditions vary, complex medical conditions to post-surgical care. You’ll be working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, managing high-acuity patients. Typically dealing with complex medical (requiring NIV to full ventilation (neurology - seizures, dystonia) to surgery including complex orthopaedics, complex urology, spinal, congenital cardiac (with a Cardiothoracic cover)).

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Conducting ward rounds and assisting in patient management in our 9-bed PICU and 5-bed HDU.
  • Being part of the Paediatric Emergency Response Team, handling emergency interventions such as airway management, intubation, and chest drains.
  • Collaborating with two PICU consultant teams—Surgical and Medical—ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients.
  • Managing pre- and post-operative care in collaboration with Cardiac Surgical teams.
  • Engaging in ongoing learning through case discussions, audits, and quality initiatives.

What You’ll Bring:

  • GMC registration and completion of Foundation training.
  • At least 3 years of post‑graduate experience in Paediatrics, with previous PICU experience.
  • ALS certification and competency in managing complex paediatric ICU presentations, including emergency care and airway management.
  • A passion for patient‑centred care and teamwork.
