Location: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children, Central London

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week

Shifts: 12.5 hour shifts between Monday and Sunday (long days, nights and weekends)

About the Hospital

We have an exciting opportunity for a Midwifery Sister to join the Midwifery team at The Portland Hospital, which is currently rated “Good” by the CQC. As the only fully private maternity hospital in the United Kingdom, delivering over 1,600 babies a year, we place great importance on providing safe and high‑quality care for expectant mothers. Both consultant‑led and midwife‑led maternity care is available, and our aim is to provide you with all the support you need during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Women’s health issues are treated by a team of 40 consultants, supported by nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and counsellors, with an emphasis on privacy and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play a key leadership role in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient management of the maternity department.
  • Provide expert clinical care across antenatal, intranatal and postnatal services, while promoting evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate daily operations, offering guidance and support to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Oversee the care delivered by both registered and non‑registered staff.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, risk management and quality assurance, while supporting staff development and education.

What You’ll Bring

  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Demonstrable knowledge and a minimum of 3 years’ experience practising as a Midwife
  • Teaching and mentoring experience with ENB 997 or equivalent
  • Basic Adult and Newborn Life Support
  • Safeguarding Level 3 training
  • Excellent understanding of clinical governance and experience with audits and action plans
