We are seeking an exceptional Chief Nursing Officer to provide strategic and professional nursing leadership at The Portland Hospital and to play a key role in shaping the future of paediatric and women’s healthcare.

The Role

  • As Chief Nursing Officer, you will hold executive accountability for all nursing, midwifery and allied clinical services across The Portland Hospital.
  • You will be a visible and inspirational leader, ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality, safety and patient experience, while developing a high‑performing, engaged and compassionate workforce.
  • Reporting into the Hospital Chief Executive Officer and with a professional reporting line into HCA’s group Chief Nursing Executive, you will contribute to both hospital‑level and group‑wide strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and strategic leadership for nursing, midwifery and clinical teams, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care at all times.
  • Lead on quality, patient safety, clinical governance and regulatory compliance (CQC), embedding continuous improvement across services.
  • Shape and deliver the nursing strategy in line with the Hospital’s vision and HCA Healthcare UK’s values.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and innovation, supporting talent development, succession planning and workforce sustainability.
  • Act as a senior clinical advisor to the Executive Team, contributing to service development, growth initiatives and change programmes.
  • Build strong relationships with medical colleagues, external partners and professional bodies to enhance reputation and outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Significant senior leadership experience, ideally within acute, women’s health or paediatric services.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading quality, safety and governance in a regulated environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience contributing to organisational strategy.
  • Authentic, inclusive leadership style with the ability to influence at executive and board level.
