Job Summary:

  • Location: Richmond, VA 23224
  • Reports to: Director, Loss Control
  • FLSA Status: Full–Time / Exempt
  • Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Mon. – Fri.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Director of Loss Control.
  • Oversee and manage safety compliance contractually and within Federal and State laws for various project sites.
  • Lead and oversee the investigation of accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Conduct site safety inspections or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Provide education and training in safety‑related content.
  • Consistently update Health And Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and other safety documentation, and compliance objectives as needed.
  • Manage SMIS data entry for injury reporting and other required reporting.
  • Administer Fleet Program record keeping.
  • Schedule and conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and ensure all applicable employees have the appropriate training certifications.
  • Assist the project team and safety lead with scheduled and unscheduled safety audits at all job sites; enforce safety program and report violations.
  • Participate in daily safety checklists for tools, equipment, and fleet.
  • Promote a zero‑accident environment for all company activities.
  • Coordinate drug and alcohol testing as required by company policy and contractual requirements.
  • Meet background check and fitness‑for‑duty requirements set by projects/customers.
  • Hold a valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Must be work authorized in the United States on a full‑time basis without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Preferred Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in health and safety and/or environmental or related discipline.
  • 5‑10 years experience in a safety‑related department or field in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with Health And Safety Plans (HASP) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Completion of OSHA 510 and OSHA 500.
  • OSHA 30‑hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health coursework every four years.
  • Familiarity with construction industry regulations and practices.
  • CHST, STS, OSHA 500 are a plus.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of project and financial software is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Must regularly sit, see, talk, and hear. Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. Walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required.
  • May occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Requires close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.
  • Required to commute to field locations and navigate job site locations.

Work Environment:

  • Work may involve outdoor work, exposure to wet/humid conditions, mechanical and electrical parts, high places, dust, fumes, toxic chemicals, weather, sunlight, cold, heat, electrical shock, vibration. Noise level usually moderate to loud.
