Overview

The Pointer School (TPS) is an independent prep and pre‑prep school in Blackheath, South‑East London, providing an outstanding education to 350 pupils supported by 80 staff.

The school uses Google Workspace for core business services and offers a 1:1 i Pad to all pupils and staff.

Staff work on a mixture of Windows PCs and Mac Books.

Devonshire House Preparatory School (DHP) is a thriving, co‑educational independent school across three Victorian sites in Hampstead, educating around 500 pupils aged 2 to 13.

It has upgraded its network infrastructure and all staff and pupils use Microsoft 365 in an all‑Windows environment.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work in two forward‑thinking independent schools that value innovation, creativity and technology to drive educational success.

Role

This is a full‑time, permanent position shared between TPS and DHP.

The IT engineer will travel between the schools on a scheduled basis, providing first‑line support and reporting to the bursars and the Head of Digital Learning at DHP, with dotted‑line oversight to Dukes Education’s Head of IT.

The role involves daily maintenance of IT systems, network and communications infrastructure, end‑user hardware provisioning, MDM, AV & printing, and IT budgeting and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Service – responsible for maintaining IT systems, network and communications infrastructure on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • End‑User hardware & Core Ecosystems – manage provisioning, updates, security, connectivity and configuration for M365 at DHP and Google Workspace at TPS across Mac OS, i Pad OS, Chromebooks and Windows.
  • MDM – manage Intune for Windows devices at DHP, GWf E for Chromebooks and a selected MDM for i Pad and Mac OS devices at TPS.
  • AV & Printing – support classroom AV, interactive whiteboards, projectors, audio‑visual devices, printers and photocopiers.
  • Network & Core IT Infrastructure – support switches, routers and firewalls; escalations to the MSP for 2nd/3rd line issues.
  • Administration & IAM – admin Microsoft 365 at DHP, GWf E at TPS including user identity management and automation.
  • End‑User Support – provide in‑person and remote support and training for IT software, systems and processes.
  • Vendors Management & Coordination – manage third‑party suppliers and procure hardware and services cost efficiently.
  • Budgets & Strategy – contribute to IT budgeting, forecasting and strategic recommendations.
  • Documentation & Asset Management – manage licences, asset lists, contracts and maintain an asset register.
  • Security & Data – develop and maintain IT security and compliance policies including GDPR and CIS controls.
  • Project Management – contribute to and implement the future IT roadmap through project management.

Essential Skills & Education

  • Demonstrated experience as 2nd‑level IT engineer/system administrator.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, Intune and Entra ID.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Workspace administration.
  • Strong knowledge of i Pad and Mac OS MDM solutions.

Desirable Skills & Education

  • Experience in network administration (switches, WAPs, network controllers, routers, TCP/IP, DNS, VLAN).
  • Experience in the education sector.
  • Knowledge of school IT systems such as MIS, safeguarding and parent communications.
  • Strong experience supporting users on a daily basis.
  • Strong knowledge of end‑user computing devices including hardware and software support, installation, configuration and deployment.
  • Experience with audio/visual devices (projectors, interactive TVs).
  • Experience in ticket desk analysis and workflows.
  • Experience with firewall, Web Filters, security policies.
  • Experience with VOIP communication and other telephony.
  • Project management and/or ITIL knowledge and experience.

Person Specification

  • Communication – persuading, adapting style to an audience of educators who may not understand IT jargon.
  • Planning – demonstrate planning, prioritisation and resource management skills.
  • Proactiveness – proactive attitude to fix issues before they arise, identify IT needs and suggest improvements.
  • Strategy – act as an IT advisor to school leaders, identify and implement solutions to strategic challenges and deliver lasting benefits.

TPS – 19 Stratheden Road, London SE3 7TH DHP – 2 Arkwright Road, London NW3 6AE and surrounding buildings.

Working Hours

Monday–Friday 08:00–16:00, with occasional flexibility for out‑of‑hours work.

Start Date

Mid to end of August 2026.

On‑site

This is an on‑site, full‑time role contracted through The Pointer School, covering IT duties for Devonshire House as well.
