The Bear & Bear Bar | The Point at Polzeath
Full time | Cornwall | From £32,000 per annum + tips + benefits
We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant F&B & Events Manager to join the team at The Point. This is a hands-on role combining the day-to-day running of our food and beverage operation with a key responsibility for helping to plan and deliver weddings, parties, golf events and other functions across The Point.
You’ll work closely with both the F&B Manager and Head Chef, helping lead the front-of-house operation, run services and ensure events are well planned, properly staffed and professionally delivered. You’ll also contribute to the continued development of our food and beverage offering, bringing front-of-house insight, guest feedback and commercial awareness into discussions around menus, events and service.
As a seasonal business, the balance of the role will vary throughout the year. Alongside events, you’ll regularly be involved in leading and supporting lunch and evening service throughout the week, depending on trade and operational requirements.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys variety, takes responsibility and is comfortable leading both people and busy hospitality operations.
The Role
- Supporting the planning and delivery of weddings, parties, golf events, society days and other functions.
- Coordinating event timings, staffing, room setup, menus and service requirements with the wider team.
- Responding to event enquiries, conducting showarounds and liaising with organisers in the lead-up to their event.
- Briefing and leading front-of-house teams during events and busy services.
- Leading and supporting lunch and evening restaurant and bar services throughout the week as required.
- Being visible on the floor and working alongside the team during busy periods.
- Working closely with the F&B Manager and Head Chef to ensure strong communication between front and back of house and a joined-up approach to service.
- Contributing to menu and F&B development, using guest feedback, sales performance, seasonal demand and operational experience to help shape the offering.
- Working with the Head Chef on event menus, function requirements and the practical delivery of food service for weddings and events.
- Supporting, motivating and developing front-of-house team members.
- Dealing confidently and professionally with guest feedback and operational issues.
- Helping manage staffing levels and labour according to bookings, events and seasonal demand.
- Supporting the F&B Manager with the ongoing development of procedures, service standards and ways of working.
- Taking greater operational responsibility when required and helping ensure the wider F&B operation runs smoothly and consistently.
About You
You might already be an Assistant Manager, Events Supervisor, Restaurant or Bar Supervisor, or an experienced hospitality team leader ready for more responsibility. You’ll ideally be someone who:
- Enjoys hospitality and genuinely cares about the guest experience.
- Has experience leading busy services, events or hospitality teams.
- Is organised and confident taking ownership and responsibility.
- Can stay calm, make decisions and adapt when plans change.
- Is comfortable leading a team while still being hands-on.
- Enjoys working collaboratively with chefs and understands the importance of a strong relationship between front and back of house.
- Has an interest in food and drink and can contribute ideas to menus, events and the wider F&B offering.
- Communicates well across front-of-house, kitchen and other departments.
- Understands the importance of both great service and good commercial performance.
- Is flexible around evenings, weekends and the seasonal nature of the business.
- Wants to develop their experience across the wider F&B operation.
Experience in restaurants, bars, hotels, events, golf clubs, leisure or resort environments would be useful. Experience delivering weddings or larger events would be particularly valuable.
What We Offer
- Salary from £32,000 per annum.
- Staff tips.
- Free use of The Point facilities, including golf, gym, pool and leisure facilities.
- Discounted food and drink across The Bear and Bear Bar.
- A varied role covering restaurant and bar service, weddings, golf events and functions.
- Genuine responsibility and the opportunity to develop across the wider F&B operation.
- The opportunity to work closely with senior F&B and kitchen management and contribute to how the offering develops.
- The chance to have a real influence on our service, events and guest experience.
