About PDC:

The Plumbing Distribution Company Ltd (PDC) is a successful, family-run B2B distribution business that has proudly served plumbing merchants since 2006. We are built around gold-standard service, reliability, trust and continuous improvement, and after 20 years of growth, we are entering an exciting new period of expansion.

We are looking for a reliable, experienced and customer-focused Delivery Driver / Warehouse Assistant to join our team and play an important role in our continued success.

The Role:

As a PDC driver, you will be much more than someone who simply delivers goods. You will be one of the faces of our business, representing PDC to customers every day. You will complete pre-planned delivery routes across London, Essex and surrounding areas, typically making approximately 10-15 deliveries per day. Unlike many delivery roles, our drivers are given generous time allowances. We prioritise quality of service over speed, allowing you to take care when delivering products and, where required, assist customers with placing goods. You will also support the warehouse team when you return before the end of your shift, with full training provided. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who wants to develop their skills. We provide structured in-house training, certifications and ongoing development, with opportunities to increase your earnings as you develop and take on additional skills and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely deliver plumbing products to businesses, completing approximately 10-15 drops per day.
  • Provide professional, friendly and respectful customer service at every delivery.
  • Load, transport and unload products safely and securely.
  • Assist customers with placing goods where required.
  • Complete daily vehicle safety checks using company technology.
  • Keep the company van clean, tidy and roadworthy.
  • Use navigation systems to ensure deliveries are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Obtain customer signatures and photographic proof of delivery.
  • Report accidents, incidents, vehicle issues or delivery problems promptly.
  • Use company mobile devices to manage tasks and provide real-time delivery updates.
  • Assist with warehouse duties when required, with training provided.
  • Communicate customer queries, order discrepancies and other issues to the relevant departments.
  • Work as part of the wider PDC team to maintain our high standards of service and safety.

This list is not exhaustive and responsibilities may develop as your skills and experience increase.

Requirements:

  • To be over 25 years old for insurance purposes.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Experience driving a long-wheelbase van.
  • Previous delivery and/or warehouse experience.
  • The ability to safely lift and handle products weighing up to 25kg.
  • Good geographical knowledge of London, Essex and surrounding areas.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
  • A reliable, professional, customer-focused and safety-conscious approach.
  • Your own vehicle for commuting, as our East Hanningfield site (CM3 8BH) is not accessible by public transport.

Desirable:

  • Previous distribution or B2B delivery experience.
  • Confidence driving vans throughout London, Essex and Kent.
  • Strong teamwork and accountability.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Ideally living within approximately 30-40 minutes of CM3 8BH.

What We Offer:

  • £30,940 starting salary.
  • Monday-Friday working pattern - no weekend work.
  • 28 days' holiday, including bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
  • Company holiday shutdown.
  • Full summer and winter uniform.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Comprehensive in-house training and certification.
  • KPIs and regular reviews to support your development.
  • Opportunities to increase your skills, responsibilities and earnings.
  • A stable, family-run business with a strong track record and ambitious growth plans.

Recruitment Process:

Our recruitment process includes:

  • First-stage telephone interview
  • Face-to-face interview, including:
  • Basic maths test
  • Highway Code questions
  • Delivery/customer scenarios
  • Van driving ability assessment
