As a Senior Planning Officer, you’ll play a key role in evaluating and determining a wide range of planning applications, from minor applications to less complex major developments. You’ll provide pre-application advice, negotiate with applicants and planning agents, prepare reports for Planning Committee, and represent the Council at appeals. You’ll also contribute to safeguarding our built and natural environment, including Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas, and protected trees, and work closely with colleagues across the Council, elected members, and the public.

The Planning Service is integral to the delivery of the Council’s growth agenda. The successful candidate will be an essential part of the Development Management team and will be expected to deliver timely decisions on planning applications leading to sustainable development.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A recognised professional planning qualification and eligibility for RTPI membership.
- Strong working knowledge of the Town and Country Planning system and the National Planning Policy Framework.
- Experience in Development Management, including assessing and determining planning applications and representing the Council at appeal.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to prepare clear, robust reports and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
- Confidence in interpreting architectural drawings and working both independently and as part of a team.
- A full driving licence and the ability to travel across the district.
