Planning Assistant

Rushcliffe Borough Council are looking to recruit two Planning Assistants to join their Development Management team, supporting the delivery of an efficient, high-quality planning service within a growing and ambitious borough.

About Us

The Borough of Rushcliffe is located to the south of the city of Nottingham with easy access to neighbouring cities of Leicester and Derby. Much of the Borough is rural in character with the main settlement of West Bridgford sitting alongside the River Trent and smaller towns and villages dispersed throughout the area, several of which are the focus for growth. The Borough is experiencing high levels of growth and significant interest in housing development with a requirement to deliver a significant number of new homes.

Planning Assistant – The Role

Rushcliffe Borough Council are pleased to announce two vacant Planning Assistant positions in their Development Management team following internal promotion and to build resilience into the service, preparing it for the development challenges ahead. We are looking for someone with experience in a development management team who is looking to become a valuable part of the service.

The Planning and Growth team deals with a range of development proposals from householder extensions to major housing and commercial developments, with ongoing interest from major housebuilders in schemes within the Borough.

You will play a crucial part in the Development Management service, being a key role in the team leading on aspects of the service which have high profile elements with tight deadlines. This is an opportunity to join a well-established and forward-thinking team with a strong track record of ‘growing their own’ evidenced by the number of internal promotions already undertaken.

Planning Assistant – Responsibilities

  • Process and manage planning, tree and related applications, including fast-tracking cases, undertaking site visits, preparing reports, presenting to committee, maintaining accurate records and meeting performance targets
  • Lead on the administration of planning and enforcement appeals, ensuring compliance with Planning Inspectorate deadlines, coordinating hearings and inquiries, and preparing progress reports for Planning Committee
  • Provide advice and liaison to stakeholders, applicants, agents, elected members and the public, while maintaining and updating planning records, systems, website content and notifications
  • Support Planning Committee and wider Development Management functions through statistics and reporting, CIL and Section 106 administration, committee and team meeting coordination, and performance monitoring

Planning Assistant – You

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of literacy, numeracy and accuracy
  • Experience of working within a Development Management team or support service in a Local Government Setting dealing with planning related matters
  • Able to deal with detailed and complex administrative processes
  • Able to negotiate and work to/meet deadlines, usually set by external bodiesAble to communicate with a variety of customers and consultees and explain complex procedures
  • Full driving or motorbike licence
