Overview of the role

To assist Senior Planning Managers in the management and control of development within the framework of the current town planning and associated legislation.

Prepare reports and make recommendations on applications determined under delegated powers and, when required, make delegated decisions on planning applications on behalf of the Chief Planner.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Lead and manage a Development Management team, ensuring consistency of practice and efficient workload management.
  2. Support the Head of Development Management by highlighting policy issues or challenges that require senior-level action.
  3. Review development applications, providing guidance and instruction to the team, including organizing screening meetings and negotiating improvements with applicants.
  4. Represent the Chief Planner at Planning Committees, presenting applications, recommendations, and advising on planning policies.
  5. Act as an expert witness at Local Inquiries on complex planning matters beyond standard development control considerations.
