The Royal Borough of Greenwich is undergoing a period of substantial change and growth. It is a significant growth hub where the expectation for quality delivery is high. It is an attractive borough, on the international map and not without its challenges to deliver on one of London's highest housing targets.

Working in the West Area Team, you will play an essential role, supporting the Area Manager to deliver a professional, cost-effective and high quality development management service. You will be an experienced Development Management Planner, with some experience of managing and/or mentoring staff. For all roles you must be able to form strong collaborative working relationships with a range of public and private sector stakeholders and have excellent oral and writing skills. You will have presented to committees and have some experience of reviewing junior officers' work. You will have a relevant professional qualification.

The role includes supporting and deputising for the area manager, delegated decision making powers for applications and supervision of junior staff. You will be working within a geographic area of the borough that includes Greenwich, Blackheath and Eltham, 11 conservation areas and the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage site. You will be a key point of contact for your team members, applicants, agents and stakeholders alike.

We are looking for a talented individual with experience in planning and/or policymaking who is eager to tackle a wide remit of planning issues. It is an exciting time to join the team as we carry on our service improvements, undertake preparation work for a new IT system and work with our Plan Making colleagues to bring forward a new local plan. The post requires an appropriate qualification in planning or a related discipline, and experience in planning. You will need to demonstrate your ability to analyse and present information clearly and effectively, complemented by a good understanding of current legislation, policy, guidance, and best practice in a London context. Good communication skills and the ability to respond confidently in a variety of situations are essential. You should be effective at working in a team to tight deadlines.

Starting salary will be dependent on experience.
