About the role

Location: THE PIG in the wall, Southampton.

Pay: £12.35 per hour.

Hours: 0-hour casual contract

Start Date: April 2025

We are currently looking for a Duty Manager to join our team and support the overall hotel operation at our smallest property within our group, THE PIG - in the wall. With just 12 bedrooms, THE PIG-in the wall is tucked away in the old medieval walls of the historic city of Southampton. We are all about relaxed deli-dining, open every day, our deli-bar menu changes daily and our ingredients are sourced from the kitchen garden at our hotel, THE PIG, Brockenhurst, and from our local suppliers.

A Duty Manager's role at THE PIG - in the wall is very different to a Duty Manager role within a larger hotel. We have more than one Duty Manager working at THE PIG - in the wall, who report into the Hotel Manager providing effective communication and organisation across all departments within the hotel whilst on their shift.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver an organised service within the deli-bar, taking orders, serving guests and walk-in visitors.
  • Ensuring all areas of the hotel are kept clean and tidy, working closely with our Room Attendants to guarantee all rooms and public areas are presentable.
  • Support our housekeeping team as/when required.
  • Check in/out hotel guests, carry luggage and answer the hotel's incoming calls as/when required.
  • Provide a knowledgeable service, maintaining a strong understanding of our menus, including dietary requirements.
  • Work well in a close-knit team, providing suggestions and support to enhance revenue and guest experience.
  • Understand all health and safety compliance, including fire prevention and have a confident approach towards the safeguarding of the hotel. Training will be provided.

To complement our current team structure, we are seeking someone who is a 'Hospitality All-rounder' seeking casual hours, especially during the spring/summer peak season. The ideal applicant would be experienced in food & beverage, rooms and guest relations within small to mid-sized outlets. Previous experience with hotel reservation systems such as OPERA is beneficial, along with any formal qualifications in hospitality or food & beverage such as WSET in wines.

We are dedicated to making THE PIGs an inspiring, exciting, and fun place to work and in return for your hard work you can expect something a little different:

  • Numerous retail discounts via our Perkbox Scheme
  • Discounted room rates and complimentary staff stays across our group.
  • 35% off food, beverage, and spa treatments across our group
  • 28 days holiday rising by 1 day each year for the first 5 years
  • On-site parking and meals on duty.

To view our full range of perks, visit our 'What we can do for you' section on our careers webpage. Home Grown Hotels is committed to encouraging equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against candidates based on any of the protected characteristics set out in the Equalities Act 2010.
