The Peterborough School is seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspiring Teacher of Cello to contribute to the school's thriving musical tradition. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and enhance the high standards of music tuition and musical activity on offer at The Peterborough School.

Responsibilities

  • To undertake individual violin and viola teaching to Preparatory and Senior School pupils, from beginner to Grade 8+
  • To work with relevant pupil Music Ensembles as required
  • Occasional evening work
  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • To teach cello across the range of pupils in the Preparatory and Senior School, as directed by the Head of Music.
  • To monitor, record and report on pupils' progress in a concise and literate manner.
  • To assist with relevant school music groups as required.
  • To attend and take part in concerts and festival performances as required.
  • To promote the work of the Music Department and the work of The Peterborough School in a positive way to schools, parents and teachers.
  • To attend INSET training days, staff briefings and meetings as required.
  • To fill in timesheets and pupil attendance registers, submitted with invoices for services rendered, meeting Music Department deadlines.
  • Publish termly timetables for all pupils.
  • Produce a music report on each child's progress twice a year, as directed by the Head of Music.
  • Attend and conduct a parent/teacher meeting at the Instrumental Teacher Parent consultation evening.
  • To undertake other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
  • To teach a minimum of 30 lessons per academic year for each pupil.

It is important to note that this job description is a guide to the work you will be required to perform. This job description will be reviewed at least once each year. It may be subject to modification or amendment at any time after consultation with the holder of the post. You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as the Headmaster requires from time to time.

Qualifications and experience

  • To teach violin and viola to Grade 8+ (qualifications/experience as required)
  • AR Good Honours Degree or Performance Diploma in a related discipline
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education
  • A Second Degree or additional qualification

Experience:

  • A proven track record of achieving excellent results
  • Evidence of successful teaching of violin and viola

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in teaching violin and viola
  • Ability to play the piano
  • Knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning styles
  • Knowledge of how to make learning accessible and enjoyable for the most able and those with learning difficulties
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent ICT skills
  • An ability to generate self-confidence in pupils
