A new and exciting opportunity at The Perse School has arisen for a Deputy Head - Community and Enrichment, to start in September 2026. Community and Enrichment are core aspects of our provision. By community we mean the School Community and the communities we serve. It is essential that The Perse community is a welcoming, inclusive environment where all can belong, flourish, and achieve their potentials. By enrichment we mean enriching pupils with opportunities for personal development, enjoyment and the acquisition of inter and intra-personal skills. These transferable skills are essential for success and happiness in future life.
We are looking for an inspiring leader with a thorough understanding of public benefit, IE&D, transferable skills and extra-curricular provision and how they can be developed. The role will include leadership and management of our existing public benefit programmes, the extra-curricular programme, Pupil Voice, and the school’s IE&D programmes. The Deputy Head (Community and Enrichment) will be supported by the Assistant Head (IE&D) and the Assistant Head (Extra-Curricular & Partnerships).
Perse Deputy Heads are expected to teach around 25% of a full teacher timetable. Deputy Head salaries are competitive and commensurate with their roles and responsibilities; they are set annually by the Governors' Senior Staff Salaries Committee. Safeguarding: The Perse School recognises that safeguarding our pupils requires a robust recruitment process and child protection screening appropriate to the post, including references, a DBS check at the enhanced level, and eligibility to work in the UK. All work carried out at the School on a regular basis amounts to regulated activity. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Interviews will be conducted in person and will explore candidates’ suitability to work with children.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the school’s community and enrichment programmes, including public benefit programmes, the extra-curricular programme, Pupil Voice, and IE&D initiatives.
- Work with the Assistant Head (IE&D) and Assistant Head (Extra-Curricular & Partnerships) to develop and implement strategic plans for community, enrichment and inclusion outcomes.
- Contribute to curriculum planning by balancing academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.
- Represent the school in external partnerships and public benefit activities as appropriate.
- Provide leadership in safeguarding and welfare for pupils in line with school policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven track record as an inspiring leader with strong understanding of public benefit, IE&D, transferable skills and extra-curricular provision.
- Experience in leadership and management of pupil voice and enrichment activities.
- Ability to teach around 25% of a full timetable.
- Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children, with willingness to undergo safeguarding checks as part of recruitment.
