The Perse School Outdoor Education department is looking to appoint a Target Sports Instructor. The role is an exciting opportunity to join this busy and collegiate department, delivering a popular sports option and range of extracurricular activities. The post holder will oversee all target sport delivery including small bore rifles, air rifle and pistol, and archery. They will also be team coach for the school’s small bore rifle competition shooters, who have achieved significant success at national and international level. The role is divided between activity instruction, oversight of the range and armoury, and all legal requirements as determined by legislation from the Home Office, Police and other agents. The postholder will be required to be the designated person on the school’s Firearms Certificate. All work must be carried out in a manner consistent with safe working practises and so due consideration must be given to this aspect before it is undertaken. Since the School is required to comply with the important, and increasing, legislation in relation to Health and Safety, guidance is available and must be sought by the post holder as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Hold a current and valid Firearms Certificate (FAC).
  • Range Conducting Officer (ROC) from the NRA or NSRA.
  • Membership of: NRA, NSRA, BSSSRA. These can be acquired through the school.
  • Experience of competitive target rifle shooting and high level coaching.
  • A thorough knowledge of range safety regulations and the safe handling of firearms.
  • An interest in and appreciation of the technical aspects of shooting.
  • An interest in archery or openness to learn. An archery instruction qualification is desirable.
  • Valid first aid qualification.
  • Full driving licence.
