We're recruiting on behalf of an established yet growing business looking for an experienced
Transport Manager to lead its busy transport operation.
Managing a mixed fleet of
HGVs, grab wagons, specialist vehicles and more than 100 light commercial vehicles , you'll take ownership of fleet compliance, driver management and vehicle availability, ensuring the business operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with DVSA and Operator Licence requirements.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work closely with Operations, HSEQ and Workshop teams to keep a demanding fleet moving every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day management of a mixed fleet of HGVs and 100+ light commercial vehicles.
- Ensure full compliance with
- DVSA regulations and
Operator Licence obligations.
- Manage
PMIs (Preventative Maintenance Inspections) , servicing, MOTs and vehicle maintenance schedules.
- Oversee daily vehicle defect reporting and ensure repairs are completed promptly.
- Manage driver licence checks, Driver CPC records and ongoing compliance.
- Ensure daily walk-around checks are completed and recorded correctly.
- Monitor domestic drivers' hours compliance and tachograph requirements where applicable.
- Work closely with Operations to maximise fleet availability and minimise downtime.
- Manage external maintenance providers, workshops and transport suppliers.
- Investigate transport incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Produce fleet compliance reports and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
About You
- You'll ideally have experience managing a busy commercial fleet within sectors such as:
- Utilities
- Civil Engineering
- Highways
- Construction
- Infrastructure
- Waste & Recycling
- Plant Hire
- Logistics
You'll also bring
- Proven Transport or Fleet Management experience.
- Excellent knowledge of
DVSA and Operator Licence compliance.
- Experience managing HGV and commercial vehicle fleets.
- Strong understanding of
PMIs, vehicle defect management, driver licence compliance and daily walk-around inspections .
- Knowledge of domestic drivers' hours regulations .
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive, hands-on leadership style.
Desirable
- National Transport Manager CPC
- Experience managing grab wagons or specialist fleet vehicles.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Utilities or civil engineering sector experience.
