We're recruiting for experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineers / Tooling Designers to join one of the world's leading independent nuclear engineering consultancies, working on major UK nuclear and defence programmes. Based in Derby, you'll join an expanding engineering team supporting nuclear submarine new-build and development programmes, including the UK's Continuous At Sea Deterrent. With significant investment and long-term programme growth, this is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects that genuinely matter.
You'll take mechanical and tooling designs from concept through to detailed design and manufacture, working closely with engineering teams and clients throughout the process. You'll be involved in:
- 3D modelling and 2D detailing of tooling, jigs, fixtures and mechanical systems
- Design of lifting equipment, pressure vessels, valves and associated components
- Design for Manufacture (DfM)
- Engineering drawings, assemblies, BOMs and design changes
- GD&T and relevant engineering standards
- Requirements capture, stakeholder management and design reviews
We're interested in experienced mechanical designers with backgrounds in tooling, jigs, fixtures, lifting equipment, pressure vessels, valves or other complex mechanical systems. You should have strong 3D and 2D CAD experience and be comfortable taking designs through the full engineering lifecycle. Siemens NX is the primary CAD system used by the team, but candidates with strong transferable experience in other CAD packages will also be considered. Experience with Teamcenter / PLM, GD&T and engineering analysis tools would be advantageous. Nuclear experience is desirable, but relevant backgrounds in aerospace, defence, heavy engineering, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, energy or other highly regulated sectors will be considered.
Due to the nature of the programmes, applicants must be sole British Nationals and eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
If you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer or Tooling Designer looking for a long-term opportunity within nuclear and defence, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today for a confidential discussion.
