We’re working with a well-established food business that prides itself on quality, pace and strong customer relationships. As part of a growing technical function, they are looking to appoint a Food Technologist who enjoys variety, responsibility and working cross‑functionally in a fast-moving environment. This role would suit someone at the beginning of their career who is keen to gain hands-on technical exposure to customers and develop within an organisation that genuinely invests in long-term career progression.

Role Overview

This role sits within the Technical team and reports directly into a Customer Technical Manager. The Food Technologist will play a key part in supporting both internal teams and external customers, ensuring products meet all technical, legal and quality requirements. It’s a hands-on role that blends customer-facing activity with factory-based technical support, offering excellent exposure across the full product lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities

  • Providing day-to-day technical support to the business, suppliers and customers
  • Managing and completing customer technical requests in a timely and well-organised manner
  • Investigating customer complaints and contributing to monthly complaint KPI reporting
  • Supporting customer audits, site visits and third-party inspections
  • Assisting with customer KPI reviews and associated follow-up actions
  • Maintaining and updating technical documentation, including Quality Attribute sheets
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of company policies in line with legislation and customer standards
  • Keeping up to date with food legislation and communicating relevant changes internally
  • Benchmarking products to ensure technical compliance with agreed specifications
  • Working closely with NPD and Commercial teams to support successful product launches
  • Ensuring new products are assessed for nutrition, shelf life and customer requirements
  • Supporting development trials and PPR trials
  • Maintaining accurate product data within internal technical systems
  • Promoting high standards of health, safety, hygiene and legality across the site

People Profile

  • Experience within a food manufacturing or food supply technical role
  • Sound understanding of food safety, quality and legal compliance
  • Confident dealing with customers and handling technical queries and complaints
  • Experience supporting audits and working to customer and third-party standards
  • Comfortable managing technical documentation and product specifications
  • Able to work collaboratively with Technical, NPD and Commercial teams
  • Well organised, detail focused and able to manage multiple priorities
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe or non-compliant practices
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, positive manner
