Our client, a well-established and fast-growing organisation within the FMCG wholesale and food distribution sector, is seeking a driven and hands-on Warehouse Operations Manager to lead warehouse operations and deliver best-in-class service across a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational leader to build and develop high-performing teams while driving efficiency, service, and continuous improvement.
Job Role
Reporting to the Head of Wholesale, the Warehouse Operations Manager will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running and optimisation of warehouse and operational activities. Leading multiple teams across goods-in, picking, packing, and dispatch, you will ensure customer orders are delivered on time, in full, and to specification, while maintaining strict cost control and operational excellence. This role operates on a night shift pattern (12:00am – 9:00am, 5 days per week) and requires a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead, recruit, and develop a high-performing operations team, including supervisors and departmental managers.
- Drive a strong performance culture focused on accountability, delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear objectives aligned to customer service KPIs, ensuring consistent achievement of on-time, in-full delivery targets.
- Oversee all warehouse operations including goods-in, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Ensure stock accuracy and integrity across both physical inventory and warehouse management systems.
- Maintain high standards of product quality, handling, and customer service throughout the operation.
- Monitor and improve order accuracy and fulfilment processes to meet customer expectations.
- Manage labour, operational, and infrastructure costs to drive efficiencies and reduce cost per order.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and operational performance.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, using operational data and KPIs to inform decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment across departments and support overall business objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal teams to ensure service excellence.
- Oversee site management, ensuring safety, security, cleanliness, and operational readiness at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage operational infrastructure, including equipment, systems, and supplier relationships.
- Lead resource and workforce planning to meet fluctuating demand effectively.
- Support and lead operational projects, driving change and delivering measurable improvements.
Personal Profile
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager or Warehouse Manager role within FMCG, food distribution, or wholesale environments.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing large teams in fast-paced operations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive performance improvements and deliver against KPIs.
- Commercially aware with experience managing costs and improving operational efficiency.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, stock control, and logistics processes.
- Experience implementing SOPs, systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills.
