The Role
As Senior Food Technologist, you will support the Technical Manager in delivering food technology requirements across NPD, food safety, and quality. This is a hands‑on, cross‑functional role, working closely with suppliers, customers, and internal teams including Procurement, Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations. You will play a key part in ensuring products are compliant, fit for purpose, and launched efficiently, while contributing to the continuous improvement of technical and supplier processes.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver food technology input for NPD, launches, and other technical projects, providing timely updates and escalating risks where required.
- Act as a technical point of contact for Sales, Procurement, suppliers, and customers, providing accurate product and supplier information.
- Complete product specifications in company and customer formats.
- Support supply chain management through supplier risk assessments, audits, gap analysis visits, and first production visits.
- Communicate and ensure adherence to customer and retailer Codes of Practice across the supply base.
- Support the Technical Manager with supplier performance reviews, improvement plans, VACCP, and regulatory compliance.
- Liaise internally to resolve product, supplier, or customer issues effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate technical records, reports, and documentation.
- Contribute to departmental KPIs, continuous improvement initiatives, and wider technical activities.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality, and environmental standards at all times.
Person Profile
- Degree qualified in Food Technology or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within the food industry.
- Strong working knowledge of UK food legislation and food safety systems.
- HACCP knowledge and relevant food safety qualifications.
- Confident multitasker, able to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Numerate, detail-focused, and comfortable using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with the ability to challenge constructively.
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently and take ownership.
