The role criteria:
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment, statutory duties and accountability frameworks
- A relevant professional qualification in risk, audit or a related field, a degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience in a risk and assurance function
- Significant experience designing, embedding and reviewing enterprise risk management and assurance frameworks in a complex organisation
- Experience leading and developing technical teams
- Ability to communicate complex risk and assurance issues clearly to non-technical audiences
- Experience supporting organisational culture change and strengthening first-line risk and assurance capability
- Understanding of recognised risk management standards and frameworks (such as the HM Treasury Orange Book or COSO ERM)
You will play a vital role in helping The Pensions Regulator (TPR) protect savers and deliver its statutory objectives. You will lead how TPR identifies, manages and gains assurance over risk, providing trusted insight and constructive challenge that supports confident decision-making at every level of the organisation. Working closely with colleagues across the first, second and third lines of defence, you will shape and embed proportionate, organisation-wide risk and assurance frameworks. Your work will help ensure TPR operates in a lawful, efficient and effective way, even as the external pensions environment continues to change. You will collaborate with senior leaders, Executive Directors and the Board, translating complex risk information into clear, meaningful reporting that supports both strategic and operational priorities. You will also lead and develop a team of risk and assurance specialists, building capability, consistency and shared ownership of good risk management across TPR.
