You will play a key role, primarily as part of the Funding and Events Theme within the Trusteeship, Administration & Defined Benefit Supervision (TADBS) Directorate, which oversees a wide range of workplace pension activities to drive high standards and positive outcomes. You will lead a portfolio of cases and initiatives (e.g. continuous improvement), ensuring timely and effective interventions and outcomes aligned to The Pensions Regulator’s (TPR) risk appetite and corporate priorities. The Theme is also exploring new ways of thematic and data led work and there will also be opportunities to work with the other Themes within TADBS as required.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage a portfolio of casework (or equivalent), delivering timely and effective interventions and outcomes.
  • Lead external engagements on key issues with confidence and credibility.
  • Build and foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and assess entities in your portfolio and respond to emerging events, identifying risks and opportunities, and make informed decisions to influence outcomes for pension members.
  • Maintain thorough and timely records of strategy, decisions and actions with appropriate audit trail.
  • Support and help embed new processes, contribute to change initiatives, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Share knowledge and expertise across the team and wider organisation.
  • Demonstrate TPR values and behaviours, leading by example.

The role criteria:

  • Experience of decision making and delivering good outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a portfolio of casework (or equivalent), ensuring timely and effective engagements and interventions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders confidently and with credibility at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills based on sound and informed evaluation of information.
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate complex information and data as well as accompanying context and translate into clear and actionable strategies.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence external stakeholders, in delivering good outcomes for members.
  • Ability to communicate findings to senior stakeholders giving clear and robust recommendations for further action.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with experienced professionals as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritise your own work proactively ensuring the timely delivery of objectives and actions.
  • Awareness of financial, commercial, political and social landscape.
  • Experience of DB pensions or financial regulation and/or corporate activity.

This role primarily sits in the Funding & Events (F&E) Theme focusing on direct engagement with scheme trustees and other stakeholders, influencing appropriate funding journey plans and reducing member harm caused by corporate events such as transactions and financial distress. The F&E Theme sits within the Trusteeship, Administration and DB Supervision directorate working to enhance the pension’s system and influence the delivery of better outcomes for members, by working through a deep understanding of market-wide risks and opportunities. There are 4 themes (including the F&E Theme) each focusing on specific areas of the market with a mixture of individual scheme/provider and industry-wide engagement. There will be opportunities to work with the other Themes within TADBS as required.
