Communications Officer (Flexi, Hybrid + Benefits)

Location: Canary Wharf, London (20% office attendance, flexible working culture)

Contract: Full or part‑time on a permanent basis.

Salary: £37,500 per annum pro rata (salary range provided by The Pensions Ombudsman; actual pay depends on skills and experience).

About The Pensions Ombudsman (TPO)

We investigate and resolve complaints where individuals have been unable to resolve issues about how their pension has been managed. Our service is free, and we have legal powers to make final, binding, enforceable decisions in court.

As a completely independent body, not part of the pensions industry or government, we aim to act in a balanced, fair and independent manner.

Purpose of the Role

The Communications Officer will play a vital part in delivering TPO’s Communications and Engagement Strategy. The goal is to share good practice, promote learning and drive sector improvements, building the reputation of TPO and ensuring the right complaints come to us.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of communication plans and creative solutions to achieve organisational goals.
  • Produce engaging written and visual content for TPO channels and our website.
  • Implement evidence‑based social media activity, focusing on optimisation, engagement and impact.
  • Lead on web content management and future improvements, working closely with our web hosting and development agency.
  • Analyse data to identify opportunities, drive continuous improvement and report performance to executive leadership.
  • Support the communications manager with proactive media handling, drafting press releases and media responses.
  • Provide reactive media and press activity support, monitoring for reputational risks, breaking stories and drafting responses in line with our messaging.
  • Assist in delivering a calendar of virtual, hybrid and in‑person internal and external events.
  • Develop engaging presentation assets for events.
  • Manage the intranet as the key internal communications channel.
  • Ensure all communication outputs are accessible, compliant with equalities legislation and best practice.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
