A permanent salaried GP post ideally covering a minimum of 4, possibly 5 sessions working Thursday and Friday. In the heart of East Lancashire, patients are our priority - staff our strength! The Pendle Medical Partnership in East Lancashire is looking to recruit an additional colleague to join our team. We are currently 12 GPs caring for 15,250 patients over two sites. It is likely that you have experience working in General Practice and you are looking for an opportunity to expand your leadership skills in a highly effective and quality driven team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be an integral member of the team and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all patients. We are a close and supportive team of clinicians, so the fundamental requirement is for a team-based GP who cares about others. Clinical responsibilities will include a variety of duties including face-to-face and telephone consultations and visiting patients at home. We make excellent use of care navigated Patient Triage using EConsult. The post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care including a share of the duty doctor rota, occasional Saturday clinics and support of junior doctors, PAs, ARRS staff and other allied health professionals.

This post is for a salaried GP ideally covering a minimum of 4 sessions over Thursday and Friday fixed days.

Team working is central to the culture of our practice and we support each other throughout the day. We are a large modern training practice, working from two sites in a beautiful part of the country. We are members of a Pendle East PCN, comprising 5 GP practices and a rapidly expanding range of additional roles. We have twice been awarded RCGP Quality Practice Award and we strive to maintain high standards in everything that we do. Our team comprises 3 partners and 10 salaried GPs, a Business Manager and extensive back office support, 2 PAs and a large nursing team led by a lead nurse. The clinical team are actively engaged in all aspects of clinical, teaching and research developments. We explore dynamic progression from salaried to partner on an individual basis. The practice has a superb key strength in its supporting admin and management team, with years of experience, who proactively deliver great, consistent back office success. The wellbeing of our team is very important. Holidays, rest time and time for professional development are encouraged. Coffee catch-ups, time for lunch together, tea (and cake) all encouraged but not compulsory!

Job responsibilities

  • Available for 4, possibly 5 sessions a week, covering Thursday and Friday though flexibility appreciated, depending on practice need, room capacity etc.
  • Taking part in the additional hours rota, which will include occasional Saturday mornings (currently 1 in 10).
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a GP practice.

Qualifications

  • To be a vocationally trained and accredited GP.
  • GMC registered.
  • On a PCSE/ICB performers list.
  • MRCGP.
  • Confidence and enthusiasm with IT and digital technologies.
  • A great sense of team values, flexibility and empathy.
