ROLE OVERVIEW
As we build out our operational team, we are looking for an experienced and authoritative Head Door Person to lead our door team and set the standard at the front of house. The Head Door Person leads the door team and is accountable for the standard of welcome, access control, and conduct both at The Pembroke’s entrance and within the club at all times. You combine the personal service instincts of a seasoned luxury hospitality professional with the operational, security authority to manage a door team, hold the line under pressure, and take full accountability for everything that happens at and around the club’s perimeter. Members know you by name. Your team looks to you for direction. Neighbours and residents regard you as a reliable and reasonable point of contact. Working closely with the Head of Security, you will ensure the door operation consistently reflects the club’s values, uphold the premises licence and Operational Management Plan without exception, and ensure the team is trained, briefed, and performing to the required standard and keeping staff, member and guests safe at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Team Leadership & Service Standards: Lead, brief, and manage the door team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring every team member understands the standard expected and is equipped to deliver it consistently across all shifts. Prepare weekly rotas for the door team; ensure timesheets are completed accurately and submitted on time; support the Head of Security with recruitment and ongoing performance management. Set and maintain the personal service standard at the front door – welcoming members by name, leading by example on every interaction, and ensuring the team understands that hospitality comes before procedure in every exchange that allows it.
- Operations & Perimeter Management: Take full accountability for all activity at and around the club’s entrance, perimeter, and surrounding roads; ensure access control is applied consistently, escalating to the Head of Security where required. Oversee parking management in line with the Operational Management Plan; ensure the exterior of the club is clean, well-presented, and free of obstruction at all times; manage smokers, deliveries, and vehicle movements in accordance with licence conditions. Ensure all incidents are logged and reported accurately; review incident reports and work with the Head of Security to identify patterns and implement preventative measures; ensure all required logs and forms are completed correctly by the team. Maintain strong working relationships with local residents and commercial neighbours; act as the first point of contact for any concerns arising at street level, recording and escalating as appropriate. Ensure full compliance with the premises licence, Operational Management Plan, and member Terms & Conditions at all times; ensure all SIA badges held by the door team are valid and records are kept up to date. Ensure all team members are fit for duty at the start of each shift and are trained on H&S and fire safety procedures including Fire Panel operation; support the Head of Security in maintaining Fire Warden and Marshall coverage across your shift. Complete weekly fire alarm tests and associated records as directed; ensure all accidents, near misses, and incidents are reported and logged in accordance with the club's procedures and RIDDOR obligations where applicable.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior door or front-of-house security role within a luxury hotel, private members’ club, or high-end hospitality venue; proven team leadership capability is essential.
- A valid SIA Door Supervisor licence is essential; experience managing SIA badge records and ensuring team compliance is advantageous.
- Natural authority balanced with genuine warmth – someone equally comfortable welcoming a long-standing member by name and managing a difficult situation with composure and discretion.
- Thorough working knowledge of premises licence obligations, the Operational Management Plan, member Terms & Conditions, and parking requirements; confident applying and enforcing these consistently.
- Highly organised and reliable, with excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work flexibly across evenings, weekends, and holidays and to remain composed under pressure.
