Role Overview
As we build out our operational team, we are looking for a diligent and detail-focused Goods Receiver to play an essential role in the club’s stock and supply operation. The Goods Receiver is the first point of control in the club’s supply chain. Reporting to the Purchasing & Stock Control Manager and working closely with the BOH Supervisor, you are responsible for the accurate receipt, inspection, documentation, and storage of all incoming deliveries – with a primary focus on beverage stock. Your attention to detail at the point of intake directly protects the club’s GP, stock integrity, and supplier accountability. This is a physically active role that requires a methodical approach, strong numeracy, and the confidence to challenge and reject deliveries that do not meet the club’s standards. You will handle goods carefully, maintain a clean and organised goods receiving area, and ensure all documentation is completed accurately and promptly for the Purchasing & Stock Control Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Beverage & Goods Receiving
- Receive, check, and sign for all incoming deliveries – with primary responsibility for all beverage orders including wines, spirits, beers, soft drinks, and related consumables – verifying quantities, product codes, and condition against the purchase order before accepting any delivery.
- Inspect all incoming goods for quality, accuracy, and condition; confidently reject any items that do not meet the club’s specification and record all shortages, substitutions, damages, and discrepancies clearly and promptly.
- Check all delivery notes against purchase orders and pass completed paperwork to the Purchasing & Stock Control Manager promptly; ensure all relevant delivery records are entered accurately into the stock management system on the day of receipt.
- Transfer all received stock to the correct storage areas promptly, applying Pembroke Club stock system principles at all times and ensuring beverage stock is stored correctly by type, temperature, and category.
- Support the receiving of food deliveries in coordination with the BOH Supervisor, checking quality and temperature of goods on arrival and assisting with storage as directed by the senior kitchen team if required.
- Stock Control & Administration
- Assist the Purchasing & Stock Control Manager with regular beverage stocktakes, including weekly and monthly counts; maintain accurate records and support variance investigation where discrepancies arise.
- Process daily bar requisitions and assist with the movement of stock between cellars and bar areas, ensuring all internal transfers are recorded accurately and signed off in line with club procedure.
- Maintain the goods receiving area, cellar, and all storage spaces in a clean, organised, and secure condition at all times; ensure access to storage areas is controlled and that stock security procedures are followed.
- Adhere to all H&S, manual handling, and food safety requirements; this role involves regular physical activity including lifting and moving stock, and safe manual handling practices must be followed at all times.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years previous experience in a goods receiving, cellar, or stock control role within a hotel, restaurant, private members’ club, or licensed hospitality environment; beverage knowledge and an understanding of wine, spirits, and beer products is strongly preferred.
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong numeracy skills; confident in checking deliveries against purchase orders and identifying and recording discrepancies accurately.
- Familiarity with stock management or EPOS systems; proficiency in basic MS Excel or equivalent for record-keeping purposes.
- A working knowledge of food safety and manual handling requirements; a food hygiene certificate (Level 2 or above) is desirable.
- Physically fit and able to handle and move stock regularly, including lifting up to 15kg unassisted; reliable, punctual, and able to work flexibly including early starts, weekends, and event days as required.
