Students attend three-hour sessions that rotate between Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre, and Film & Television, providing a broad and engaging performing arts experience.

Role Description

The Comedy & Drama Teacher will deliver engaging, structured classes to students aged 6-18 at the Stevenage academy.

This is a part-time, on-site role, typically working at weekends to lead hour-long sessions focused on acting, improvisation, character development, and comedy performance.

Day-to-day responsibilities include planning lesson content, preparing exercises and scripts, teaching performance techniques, and facilitating group work that builds confidence and collaboration.

The teacher will provide constructive feedback, support students of varying abilities, ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment, and help prepare students for showcases and academy events.

Collaboration with other academy teachers and adherence to PQA teaching standards and safeguarding procedures are essential parts of the role.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Drama and Performing Arts, with the ability to inspire and engage young performers.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Teaching and Teaching Acting, including managing mixed-ability groups and adapting methods for different age ranges.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Curriculum Development, with experience creating lesson plans and structured termly learning objectives.
  • Relevant experience in youth or education settings, such as teaching, coaching, or workshops with children and young people.
  • Professional or substantial amateur experience in theatre, comedy, or acting, with practical knowledge of stagecraft and performance techniques.
  • Strong communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
  • A relevant qualification in performing arts, drama, education, or a related field is desirable.
  • Ability to work weekend hours in Stevenage and collaborate effectively within a creative teaching team.
