Part-Time Financial Controller – Wigan
Location: Wigan (Onsite)
Rate: £35 per hour
Commitment: 2–3 days per week
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Financial Controller to join The Part-Time Finance People supporting our clients across Wigan and the surrounding areas. Our business partners with ambitious SMEs that need senior-level financial expertise without the cost of a full-time hire. This role is ideal for a commercially astute Financial Controller who can take ownership of the finance function, strengthen financial processes, and deliver clear, actionable insight to business owners on a part-time basis. You will play a key role in improving reporting accuracy, enhancing financial visibility, and supporting strategic decision-making.
About You
You are an experienced Financial Controller with a strong background in supporting growing SMEs. Ideally, you are already operating on a self-employed basis and can commit to at least two days per week, with availability to start in the near term. You will bring:
- Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and board-level reports
- Balance sheet reconciliations and oversight of ledger integrity
- Cashflow management, forecasting, and profit modelling
- Strong working knowledge of Xero (exposure to Sage 50 and QuickBooks advantageous)
- Experience reviewing and implementing robust financial controls and processes
- A commercially focused mindset with the ability to challenge and support business leaders
- Oversight of year-end processes (excluding statutory accounts preparation)
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, SUMIFS, and financial analysis tools
- Confidence presenting financial and commercial insights to non-financial stakeholders
- Full professional qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACMA/FCCA/ICAEW) or QBE with 5+ years' experience
- Previous experience managing or mentoring a finance team
