Part-Time Financial Controller (High Wycombe)

Location: High Wycombe (Onsite)

Hours: 2–3 full days per week (Onsite)

Rate: £35 per hour (Self-Employed)

We are working with a well-established and growing retail business seeking an experienced Part-Time Financial Controller to become a key member of the senior leadership team. You will work closely with the Directors, take ownership of the finance function, lead the internal finance team and provide meaningful financial insight that supports business growth and strategic decision-making.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional looking to add an additional 2–3 full working days per week to an existing portfolio of clients. The role is offered on a self-employed consultancy basis, making it ideal for someone already operating as a portfolio Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the finance function and oversee day-to-day financial operations.
  • Act as the trusted finance partner to the Directors/Owners.
  • Lead, mentor and support the internal finance team.
  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts and present clear, insightful management information (MI).
  • Develop meaningful reporting that provides visibility of business performance, profitability and cash flow.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital to support effective decision-making.
  • Analyse financial performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with VAT and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with external accountants and other professional advisers where required.
  • Drive continuous improvements to financial processes and reporting.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working within owner-managed businesses and can combine strong technical finance skills with commercial thinking. You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller within an SME.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to translate financial data into practical business insights.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach.
  • Experience producing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting.
  • Confidence managing and supporting a small finance team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across the business.
  • Experience within a retail, wholesale, product or stock-led environment would be highly advantageous.
  • An accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) is welcome but not essential. Candidates who are qualified by experience with a proven track record are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information

This is an onsite role, and candidates must be available to work a minimum of 2 full days per week on site in High Wycombe. Self-employed/Part-Time £35 per hour. Ideal for portfolio finance professionals looking to complement an existing client base with an additional 2–3 full working days per week. Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years’ UK based experience as a Financial Controller. We are unable to offer sponsorship to overseas candidates.
