We are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client in the plumbing and bathroom design industry, for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Bookkeeper to join their team based in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes, and working in a fast-paced, evolving business. Reporting to the Fractional Financial Controller and Operational Manager, you will play a key role in managing the day-to-day finance function while helping to streamline and modernise existing processes.
The Role
As the Senior Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the finance function, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and strong financial controls across the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the purchase ledger and sales ledger
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Credit control and cash collection
- Processing payroll
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- General bookkeeping and day-to-day financial administration
- Bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records
- Supporting month-end processes
- Identifying opportunities to improve, streamline and automate manual processes
- Working closely with the Fractional Financial Controller and Operational Manager to support the business as it continues to evolve
About You
We're looking for someone who is not only technically strong but also commercially aware and proactive in their approach. You'll ideally have:
- Significant experience in a senior bookkeeping or finance position
- A hands-on attitude with the confidence to manage a broad finance workload
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A process-driven mindset with experience improving efficiencies
- The ability to adapt to change and thrive in a growing business
- Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- The confidence to think outside the box and suggest improvements
- Bookkeeping or accounting qualifications are desirable but not essential if supported by relevant experience
