I'm currently working with a Local Authority in South East London seeking an experienced Locum Childcare Solicitor to support their Legal Services Team.
Initial 3-Month Contract (strong likelihood of extension) £50-£60 per hour Hybrid Working (with in-person advocacy requirements)
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly and collaborative legal team, handling a varied childcare caseload within a well-established Local Authority legal department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a caseload of Childcare matters with minimal supervision
- Undertaking Court Advocacy on average Bi-Weekly
- Handling proceedings under the Children Act 1989, including Care Orders, Supervision Orders and Emergency Protection Orders
- Preparing legal documentation and applications for court proceedings
- Attending and advising at legal planning meetings, PLO meetings and case conferences
- Providing legal advice and support to social workers, team managers and senior officers
- Instructing and liaising with Counsel where required
- Keeping up to date with legislative and case law developments affecting Children's Services
Role Highlights:

Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Lawyer
- Strong working knowledge of the Children Act 1989
- Experience handling care proceedings from inception to conclusion
- Advocacy experience and confidence attending Court hearings
- Ability to manage a caseload independently with minimal supervision
