We are currently assisting a Local Authority in the recruitment of an experienced SEN Lawyer to join its in-house legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a specialist and highly rewarding caseload, supporting education services on a wide range of Special Educational Needs matters. The role offers flexible remote working arrangements and the chance to join a friendly and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and representation in relation to SEN and education law matters, including managing a caseload of SEN Tribunal matters from instruction through to resolution.
- Advise education officers and senior stakeholders on SEN legislation and statutory duties.
- Prepare responses, witness statements and legal documentation for Tribunal proceedings.
- Conduct advocacy at SEND Tribunal hearings where appropriate, or instruct external counsel.
- Advise on Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Support the Authority on school admission, exclusion and education-related judicial review matters where required.
- Provide practical and commercially aware legal advice within statutory timescales.
- Assist with policy development and ensuring legal compliance across education services.
