The Oxford Exchange designs and delivers high-quality education and training programs in Oxford and Cambridge for students and schools from around the world. The organization specializes in 2–6 week intensive courses based in residence at Oxford or Cambridge Colleges, offering an immersive academic and cultural experience. Programmes emphasize small-group teaching, academic rigor, and close engagement with tutors. The Oxford Exchange also runs international programmes abroad, giving learners access to a broad, global perspective. This is a part-time, on-site Tutor in Creative Writing role based in Oxford. The tutor will plan and deliver engaging creative writing seminars and workshops for small groups of international students enrolled in intensive courses. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing lesson plans and course materials
  • Providing individual feedback on student work
  • Facilitating discussions on literary techniques and genres
  • Guiding students through drafting and revision processes
  • Assessing student progress
  • Contributing to the design or refinement of course content
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance and assignments
  • Collaborating with program coordinators and other tutors to ensure a consistent, high-quality learning experience

We are hiring for three different courses this summer: 1) 5 July to 18 July, 2) 3 August to 18 August, 3) 20 September to 27 September 2026. Successful applicants who fit in well with our programmes will be offered roles for subsequent years.

Qualifications include:

  • Strong creative writing ability across genres (e.g., fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction) and a portfolio that demonstrates high-quality, original work
  • Experience teaching or tutoring creative writing, preferably in a higher-education, summer school, or intensive program setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain literary concepts clearly to learners from diverse backgrounds
  • Skilled in providing constructive, encouraging feedback on drafts and guiding students through editing, revision, and refinement of their work
  • Ability to design engaging lesson plans, workshops, and exercises that foster creativity, critical thinking, and participation
  • Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills, including sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple student groups, assignments, and deadlines during intensive 2-week courses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing, English, Literature, or a related field; a postgraduate degree or equivalent professional experience is an advantage
  • Availability to teach on-site in Oxford for the duration of scheduled programs, including occasional evenings or weekends as required
  • Prior experience working with international students or in residential academic programs is highly beneficial
