The Outdoors Project is a values-led business running outdoor adventure after-school clubs, holiday clubs and workshops for children across Brighton and Hove. Through outdoor play and shared adventure, we create spaces where children feel included, connected and confident. As we grow, we’re looking for a People & Operations Coordinator to support the smooth running of our Brighton and Hove operation. This is a hands-on, varied role at the centre of the business, supporting our staff, systems and day-to-day delivery.
Your role will include supporting the Brighton Club Manager with:
- Recruitment and on-boarding of staff
- Management of rotas, cover, availability and payroll preparation
- Overseeing admin, bookings and parent communications
- Supporting compliance, policies and processes
- Improving, documenting and streamlining operational processes
- Club delivery
This isn’t a corporate role with everything already boxed off. We’re building systems, refining processes and growing intentionally, so you’ll need to be comfortable taking ownership, thinking ahead, and getting stuck in.
About You
You might be a good fit if you:
- Are organised, calm and people-focused
- Enjoy responsibility and variety
- Like building structure, not just following existing processes
- Communicate clearly and confidently with parents, staff and partners
- Care about culture, community and doing things properly
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in operations and people management, with an understanding of people issues in a childcare or activities environment
- Enjoys working outdoors, with children, and supporting their physical, social and emotional development
- Has effective communication skills, is self-motivated and able to motivate others
- Has strong organisational skills and is confident with administrative tasks
- Has a good understanding of out-of-school care standards, with strong awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Is interested in how the business works overall and keen to get involved in wider projects
- Delivers excellent customer service
- Is familiar with Microsoft Office and willing to embrace new systems
- Holds a full UK driving licence
Preferred but not essential:
- Enhanced DBS on the update service
- Safeguarding Level 1
- Paediatric First Aid Level 3
Experience in operations, people management, out of education childcare, events or similar environments is helpful, but mindset and attitude are more important than a specific background.
Why work with us?
- Real ownership and trust in your role
- Opportunity to help shape a growing organisation
- Supportive, down-to-earth team
- Varied work — no two days are the same
- Work that is meaningful and community-focused
- Potential for the role to grow as the organisation grows
Work Location: Brighton (primarily in person)
